After the most amazing meal I've had in ages (at the Myanmar inspired Bodhi Tree in Christchurch - tea salad - incredible) and a hectic few days in Auckland catching up with as many people as we could squeeze into four days (yum cha at Grand Harbour [can't get yum cha in MKW!] and a great dinner at The Boiler Room [oops, the Engine Room - how could I!] in Northcote Point)...it's all about the food....we headed for a long weekend in Sydney.Robbie had some work to do Monday but we had the weekend mooching around the city playing tourist.
Best way to get to the beach - the bus!

First stop Sunday morning was Bondi Beach, then we did a tour of the Opera House, and walked (not climbed) the Harbour Bridge. Sadly it started to rain Sunday afternoon and didn't stop until we left Tuesday.

Robbie, what's that growing out of your head..?
We stayed in Darlinghurst, close to Oxford Street and the Cross. Great little boutique hotel - smallish rooms, but very styly and well priced - the Kirketon. Highly recommend for style on a budget. We had started out at its sister hotel - the Altemont - two doors up which got highly recommended on TripAdvisor. Definitely a case of the photos on the internet were too well styled and the lighting was way too complimentary. We managed to shift - thanks to the PR lady!
We ate simply and easily. Sadly no trip to Tetsuya's this trip, but we had a delicious meal at a little Vietnamese restaurant close to the hotel - Phamish - BYO, you have to be there by 6pm (!) to get a table - but it's worth it - fresh, spicy and delicious. And of course breakfast at Bill's (left) - it helped that it was just round the corner from the hotel.
It was great to see an abundance of quality, fresh, delicious food - wherever we went. The Australians do good looking food - even in the cheapest of food halls. I just can't wait for the season of farmers markets to get started in Milwaukee - roll on Summer!
